The Rentals: This is the long version of the story. Quite sometime ago, my manager at the time said, "There's this guy, he's in a band called the Black Keys. It was about 10 years ago. I couldn't understand at the time what the connection was. Later they were coming to L.A. and I'd write and get no response…then many years later I get this quick little note. "I didn't forget about that thing I'd like us to do together." I wrote back, "Tell me about it." Once again, nothing. I wrote to him again and said, "Would you be interested in recording on a couple of The Rentals songs? I'm having a problem with them." He wrote back and said, "Now. This week!"
