DTM: On this record…it’s not that the single is not representative, but everyone goes, “Wow, you gonna talk to him about what the rest of the record is like?” You also made conscious decision to make a record that was your record. You didn’t kowtow to anyone! No A&R guys sitting over you going, “Here’s the sequence…"
Mass Gothic: That song just happened. It’s also the only song I didn’t 100% write. It came from a jam session, it was Jess and her sister and I and Seth who plays drums. We were just like goofing around. When I was dredging up all my ideas, like I’ve said before, “This is my exorcism." I’ll do a new analogy for you: "I was like a little bulldog who was finding poison they could eat around the house for ten years and finally I was like. I need to throw up ten years of eating poison, and then I’m going to feel better. I can be a dog and run around the yard and have a good time. That’s what this album is. I’m like, I’m free and I’ve unpoisoned myself and I’m going to do whatever." LISTEN TO THE INTERVIEW
