DTM: Lorde does an interview and talks about being in the diner after working with you then she has to come back and go through the pain…for the things that you got out of her. You become her psychologist which is even weirder because they become your psychologist and here goes the circle of life!
Jack Antonoff: It’s a real give and take. I always say, “There’s a crazy powerlessness to songwriting, which some people scratch their head about, but it’s like you hear something or you want to hear something and then you just sit there and try to figure it out. There’s no power. You’re a slave to it. We have dumb tools and ideas: tempos drums sounds, choruses. You don’t know how to do it. You just wait and you kind of pray for it. We just agree on the idea that it’s got to be f**cking right!
